  •  Family Nurse Practitioner Diana Carpenter returns to Boonville Family Care

BOONVILLE – Family Nurse Practitioner Diana Carpenter, RN, MSN, FNP, has returned to Boonville Family Care, located at 13407 State Route 12, where she previously was on staff from 2001 to 2007. She joins Corrine E. Reed, RN, MSN, FNP, in caring for patients of all ages.
“We are pleased to have Diana and Corrine on staff at Boonville Family Care,” said Rosemel Atkinson, vice president of physician practices for Rome Memorial Hospital. “As residents of Boonville, they understand the community’s need for access to primary care and share Rome Memorial Hospital’s commitment to provide the highest level of care for our patients in the North Country.”
Carpenter received her associate’s degree in applied science from Jefferson Community College, Watertown. Her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing were earned at SUNY Health Sciences Center, Syracuse, where she also completed her training as a family nurse practitioner.
Because she has always been someone who has a lot of compassion for people, Carpenter said that becoming a nurse practitioner allowed her the opportunity to offer the most for her patients.
“I believe in a whole care approach,” Carpenter said. “I try to get to know my patients well enough so that they feel we are on the same page when it comes to developing a plan for maintaining their good health.”
Having recently returned to Boonville, Carpenter said she is thrilled to become part of the community where her sons and their families reside.
“The bonus to being able to return to seeing patients at Boonville Family Care is that now I have more opportunities to spend time with my grandchildren,” Carpenter said.
Carpenter said she is excited to get reacquainted with some of her previous patients at Boonville Family Care, and also meet new ones. Her goal is to establish lasting relationships with her patients through the coming years. She is also happy to be back working with the team at the practice, and looks forward to working with Reed to manage the healthcare needs of Boonville families.
Reed, a native of Boonville, has been involved in caring for her community since her teen years. She became a volunteer firefighter at the age of 14, following in a family tradition. Her grandfather, David Pritchard, is the chief of the Boonville fire department.
“I have always had the strong desire to help people,” Reed said. “My experiences with the fire department led me to pursue a career in health care. To have the ability to help people get well, and to keep them well, has driven me to continue my nursing education to become certified as a family nurse practitioner. Now I feel I have even more to offer my community and I am excited for this opportunity to care for patients at Boonville Family Care.”
After graduating from Adirondack High School, Reed received her associate of applied science degree in nursing from St. Elizabeth College of Nursing, Utica. She later earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing and a master’s of science in nursing and certification as a family nurse practitioner through the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at SUNY IT, Marcy.
“I am a proponent of preventative healthcare,” Reed said. “I want to foster relationships with my patients where we can work together to help them make the best lifestyle choices they can. Stressing the importance of screenings, such as mammograms and colonoscopies, and their role in keeping people healthy by identifying any condition at an early stage is a very important aspect of preventative healthcare. I want my patients to understand that these screening allow for the most options for treatment and the best chances for positive outcomes.”
Carpenter and Reed provide care for patients who are sick, including diagnosis and treatment plans, prescriptions and follow-up exams, as well as annual physicals and immunizations when needed. The office also offers the convenience of an on-site laboratory collection center for blood work and other tests. Appointments are not required for laboratory services and the laboratory is open to patients of other practices.
