  • Tree of Lights reception Sunday, Dec. 6

The Tree of Lights reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 in the hospital lobby. At 7:00 we will move outside to light the tree. This year the Tree of Lights is held in honor of Gale Barone and in memory of Dorothy Griffin, in recognition of their years of service to Rome Memorial Hospital. Entertainment, refreshments and a scroll displaying the names of donors and their honored persons are planned.

First Source Federal Credit Union is the corporate sponsor of the Rome Twigs’ 2015 Tree of Lights campaign. The company has donated $1,000 to the Twigs fundraiser for Rome Memorial Hospital. A visible symbol of the season, the Tree of Lights project began in 1989.

    Gale Barone Dorothy Griffin
Gale Barone retired on June 30 after 41 years working at Rome Memorial Hospital. She started her career at RMH in 1974 as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. As she pursued additional training to stay abreast of new technologies she moved toward educating other nurses about advances in new health care arenas. At the time of her retirement Gale was the director of education and employee health. Gale carried a passion for helping people that led her to serve in numerous volunteer capacities that supported her work as a nurse and educator.

Dorothy G. Griffin, who passed away in March of this year, was a successful business woman who believed in giving back to her community. Dorothy was a dedicated and generous supporter of Rome Hospital Foundation and Rome Memorial Hospital. In addition to contributions to the Emergency Department Campaign and the funding of a private room at the hospital, she made generous annual contributions to the Rome Hospital Foundation. Dorothy recognized the importance of the hospital in delivering quality healthcare to the Rome Community.

Contributions to the Tree of Lights campaign help the Twigs, a not-for-profit organization, continue its long tradition of dedicated service in support of the hospital and its mission. All donations are tax deductible and all monies go to the Rome Twigs for purchase of hospital equipment and to support programs of the hospital. Last year’s Tree of Lights campaign raised more than $11,150. Those dollars, along with other monies raised by the Twigs in 2015, go toward programs that contribute to patient comfort and care at Rome Memorial Hospital, including therapy equipment for both the hospital’s third floor subacute rehabilitation unit and Chestnut Commons Physical Therapy, a Zoll defibrillator for the Emergency Department and equipment at the Regional Center for Wound Care.

Individuals may purchase lights to honor a living person, remember a deceased loved one, or express thanks; each light on the tree represents a gift of love and remembrance. In order to be included on the scroll, donations of $5.00 or more for a light must be received by noon on Wednesday, November 25, addressed to Rome Memorial Hospital, Attention Tree of Lights, 1500 N. James St., Rome, NY 13440. Please make checks payable to Rome Twigs.
